Lacrosse fees have three major components:
|
An annual $25 US Lacrosse Membership fee,
Player Equipment costs (some
rentals available), and
Westside Lacrosse Association participation fees. |
US Lacrosse Membership
Every middle school player in the Westside Lacrosse Association (WLA)
Spring outdoor league must be a member of
the US Lacrosse national organization (all Middle Schools in NEO require
membership). Since Westside LAX is an independent NEO "club,"
our membership in US Lacrosse provides
insurance, regional Ohio chapter support (required for us to play
other communities and in tournaments), opportunities to participate in the
Ohio All-Star team and Team-Ohio, and various training support.
Download the US Lacrosse membership form
here (or from
USLacrosse.org), then
mail the completed form with your $25 payment directly to US Lacrosse
(address is on the form).
Westside Lacrosse Participation Fees
Westside Lacrosse fees depend on facility requirements,
length of season, referee requirements, etc. We currently sponsor a full Spring
season involving travel to other communities. We may also
participate, either as individual players or as a team, in a fall/winter
indoor league.

Spring 2008 Travel Season (estimated) |
$105.00 |
These fees are payable at the time you submit your
registration form to Westside Lacrosse. As
mentioned above, you will mail the additional $25 USLacrosse fee
directly to USLacrosse. Player equipment costs are separate from
the player participation fees.
Player Equipment Costs
To ensure safe play and to avoid injury every player must have the
appropriate uniform, and (like hockey)
purchasing the proper equipment can potentially be expensive. All equipment can be
purchased at competitive prices directly and conveniently
here in Lakewood at Geiger's Sporting Goods, 14710 Detroit Avenue, 216-521-1771. Geiger's
has been extremely supportive of the Lacrosse start-up effort and any equipment
size, availability, options can be obtained by calling or e-mailing
Gordon or Tom.
Required player equipment is as follows:
Crosse and ball (minimum for practices) A good
quality Brine beginners aluminum Crosse is approximately $40 and a
ball is roughly $3. For under $50 you have the minimum equipment to get you
started in the game.
Mouth and Personal Protective Gear
Every player must have a mouth guard providing occlusal (protecting and
separating biting surfaces) and labial (protecting the lips) protection. A
"mouthguard" costs about $2.00. A protective
cup is highly recommended -- a game ball weighs just under half-pound and in a game can travel at
speeds up to 35 mph (just think about the physics for a moment). These
items must be purchased and fitted in advance of the practice and is best obtained
at the same time you pick out a Crosse.
Helmet, Pads, and Gloves Lacrosse is an upper-body contact sport and
required safety gear includes a lacrosse helmet, shoulder pads, and lacrosse
gloves. Gloves adequately protecting the hand
are priced according to size and cost between $35 - $50; it is important to
have the gloves fitted for safe and comfortable play. A helmet
requires special consideration and fitting (bicycle helmets are not acceptable);
the proper lacrosse helmet has a NOCSAE test certification on
the helmet, and includes a face guard, chin pad, and chin strap. Good helmets cost
between $100 - $110 and must be fitted to the player. Shoulder pads
are between $46 - $55. Arm pads are approximately $35. Chest
pads are not required. Since the purchase of a helmet, pads and
gloves is approximately $225.00, an equipment rental program
may possibly be available for these items.
Player Jersey Cost is not included in the Westside
Lacrosse player registration fee. Jerseys should be purchased
immediately prior to the start of the spring program. Player registration fees in the
Spring are based on the player re-using
their jersey from the previous season.
Rental Program
Since families may be uncertain of how long a player
will be interested in Lacrosse and the equipment can be
expensive, a rental sometimes makes sense.
Due to limited funding we have a limited rental program and
available equipment varies year to year.
When available, a helmet rents for $25/season and shoulder pads and
gloves for $15 season.
The crosse, mouthguard, and protective cup are
not available on rental and must be purchased separately; these items are available
at Geiger's Sporting Goods
or at any other area sporting goods retailer.
